Well. It was that bittersweet time of year again. Her birthday. Which means her 5 year old portraits were due. What should she wear? Where should we go? How should I do her hair? How can I bribe her? But I didn’t want to impose this on her, I want to be in the moment WITH her. I want to remember her THIS way, how she really is, instead of dolled up and posed. That’s not who she really is. So the hair was not done (she had braids in the night before, hence the waves). And the clothes were whatever she picked that day (notice, no pants). And she wanted to take her photos with Pepper, her true and loyal companion. So I moved along with her instead of bending her to what I thought I wanted in a portrait. And I’m so happy I did.

Just adorable!
