Giveaway #3 | Help for Haiti

January 14, 2010

UPDATE: I woke up this morning to 79 comments awaiting approval!!! You all are amazing!!!   I would love to be out a few more hundred dollars – keep the comments coming!

I’m taking a page from the Pioneer Woman. All these giveaways started to seem frivolous to me yesterday after the world realized the full scope of the disaster in Haiti.  I think Ron Futrell said it best – disasters like the earthquake in Haiti forces us to recognize that we are not in charge of this world. Here we are snuggled in our comfortable homes while there are human beings still trapped in the rubble. Help has arrived but it cannot reach those who need it. Ships are being turned away because the pier has been far too damaged to safely accept them. Trucks are stalled because they cannot travel on the roads full of debris.

This giveaway will be a donation of $200, to a charity of the winners’ choosing. The charity, of course, would have to be involved in the relief and rescue efforts for Haiti. Also, for every comment left on my blog between now and January 20th, I will add $5 to the initial donation (up to $1000). Leave a comment and let me know your preferred charity. In the meantime, pray for Haiti – that the trucks and desperately needed supplies will be able to break through.

A number of other blogs are doing this as well. Please take a moment and visit them as well. They are all donating money for comments – it only takes a minute and every dollar helps.
